If you're taking advantage of last week's tip about
finding bargains on the web using PriceWatch®, then
you'll want to be careful that when you find the
best price, you don't get zinged by hidden fees. Here's
one of the most common, and one that you can easily
avoid: the restocking fee.

Restocking fees quite simply are a ploy to generate a
profit for the stores which charge them. Usually the
vendor will attempt to charge you 15% or more of the
purchase price. They'll claim that's what it costs
them to convert a returned product into a resaleable
item.

Yes, the company does take a hit. But there's no
reason to expect you to pick up the tab for the
store's business risk. Just shop elsewhere rather
than paying a restocking fee.

We all have friends still using AOL despite our best
attempts to show them the error of their ways. If you
have a need to send an email with an attachment to one
of these lost souls, be aware that AOL's servers have
a reputation for losing attached files when the source
is a domain other than AOL.

To get around this, keep your attachments short, and
notify your recipient to expect the file and to contact
you when they have received it in toto.

You may need to break a single file into smaller chunks
to get it through successfully.

stands for Common Gateway Interface. CGI is actually
a programming interface between a web server and the
hidden functions such as processing and database
operations. Using CGI, you can make your web site
perform interesting data functions and interact with
your visitors.)

scripts, which they categorize and rate for our
convenience. And most of them are FREE. You'll also
find documentation and tutorials for many of the
available scripts.
