Is there a small red, white, and blue icon in the tray
at the bottom right of your Taskbar? (It looks like a
window with a red clock.) Wonder what it's for?
It's for the Windows Task Scheduler, a utility that you
can program to run maintenance routines on your computer
such as ScanDisk, or the Disk Defragmenter.
To see if you have any maintenance routines currently
scheduled to run, double-click the icon.
If you don't see the Task Scheduler icon, you can open
"Scheduled Tasks" by selecting "Start," "Programs,"
"Accessories," "System Tools," "Scheduled Tasks."
If you wish to make this utility run when Windows 98
starts, inside the "Scheduled Tasks" window select:
"Advanced," "Start Using Scheduled Tasks."
Tip-within-a-tip: If you DO schedule routine upkeep of
your computer with the Task Scheduler, make sure that
you turn off any screen savers or anti-virus software
before ScanDisk or Disk Defragmenter are scheduled to
run or they may not function properly.
