[1] THIS WEEK'S MONEY SAVER: Simulated Stock Market
------------------------------------------------------------
This is a fun site that's educational and it lets you
learn about the stock market without risking any real
money.
If you're familiar with fantasy sports leagues, then
you'll understand the idea of this fantasy stock market.
You can play at being an investor with $100,000 in
fantasy dollars that you receive for signing up.
You'll have access to some 25,000 stocks and mutual
funds listed on the New York, NASDAQ, American, and
other US Stock Exchanges. Seems like a great way
to learn about investing without getting burned.

[2] THIS WEEK'S COMPUTING TIP: Your Signature File
------------------------------------------------------------
You've most likely received email with a small message or
quote at the end. This is commonly known as an email
signature. Often you'll see a person's contact information
in this text, especially in a business context.
You can create a text file and have it automatically
inserted in every email that you send. You might even
wish to create several of these files. One for each of
several situations in which you want to give out different
information about yourself - or your business.
If you use the Netscape browser, simply create a suitable
signature file in any text editor and save it in your
Netscape User folder. That's usually found here: Program
Files/Netscape/users/your name.
To make sure the signature is attached to outgoing emails,
click the "Edit" menu, select "Preferences," and click
the
choose button. Locate the text file that you previously
created. (You do remember the name, don't you?) And click
"Open."
Each time you send an email, this file will appear at the
bottom. If you're using another browser or email program,
there's a similar procedure for creating signature files.

[3] THIS WEEK'S INTERNET TIP: Synchronize Your Bookmarks
------------------------------------------------------------
A few weeks back we mentioned Backflip,
a web-based way
to save your bookmarks or favorites:
http://www.yournetsuccess.com/pages/minezine72.htm
Here's another variation on that theme:
HotLinks.com
allows you to save your bookmarks or favorite
sites to a personal online folder. This is especially
useful for those of us who work on more than one computer
and who want to synchronize the bookmarks on all machines.
With Hotlinks,
you place your favorite sites on the
internet and then have access to them from any computer
connected to the web.
Here's where to get HotLinks:

[6] From our Readers:
-------------------------------------------------------
This week's tip is from reader Carol Fisher. She tells us
how we can trick our address book so that we don't spread
email viruses inadvertently:
"Who among us doesn't know someone who has experienced
the embarrassment of unknowingly spreading a computer
virus via their email address book? It's time to STOP
this by TAKING CONTROL of our email programs!
For those who are unaware, many computer viruses spread
themselves by sending themselves to everyone in your
address book. Imagine how you would feel if you were
unknowingly infected with a computer virus, and worse
yet, you were infecting your friends, family, and
business contacts through your computer!
This tip won't prevent YOU from getting any viruses
(you have to scan those attachments yourself before
opening them to do that), but it will stop viruses
from latching onto your address book and sending
itself out to others.
Just create a contact in your email address book with
the name: "!0000" without the quotes and with no email
address in the details.
Because of the way the list is sorted, this contact will
be the first contact on your list. If a virus attempts to
"send all" names on your contact list, your PC will put
up an error message saying: "The Message could not be
sent. One or more recipients do not have an e-mail
address. Please check your Address Book and make sure
all the recipients have a valid e-mail address."
You're able to click "OK" and prevent the offending
message containing the virus from being passed on.
Of course no changes have been made to your original
contacts list, but the virus is still on your computer.
Run a virus check program to get rid of it as soon as
you can. The virus may be in your "Drafts," "Outbox,"
or "Inbox" folders.
Try this and pass on to your email contacts. The more
people that use this technique, the less vulnerable we'll
be to viruses that spread in this manner!"
Thanks, Carol.
