[1] THIS WEEK'S MONEY SAVER: FREE Office Program Suite

If you'd rather not spend $300 on the latest suite of
"office" programs from Redmond, here's a zero cost
alternative to consider:

602Pro PC Suite 2000 gives you a word processor, a spread
sheet program and a graphics editor for free. Both the word
processor and the spread sheet program are seamlessly
compatible with the Microsoft versions. However, rather
than taking up several hundred megabytes on your hard drive,
these programs are under 15MB.

602Text is a powerful word processor compatible with
Microsoft Word (.DOC 9x/2000) and many other document file
types. You can create simple documents, class papers,
complex forms, mailing labels or even chart diagrams
(network topology, flowcharts, etc.) for home or business
use. From simple formatting options (i.e. bold, italic, etc.)
to advanced database tools (i.e. database connection,
inserting merge fields, etc.), all the tools are available
to you. And you can insert images directly from your
digital camera or scanner.

602Tab is a Microsoft Excel (.XLS 9x/2000) compatible
spreadsheet program with over 150 available functions. You
can analyze active data from a database, limit results based
on sorting rules or through AutoFilters, and set up eight
different graph types (3D and 2D) instantly.

602Photo is a graphics editor designed for digital camera
and scanner image editing with support for over 15 graphic
formats. You can edit images directly from your digital
camera or scanner. Use the eight built-in effects
(including red-eye removal) to add a custom touch to your
images. Convert images between the different file formats
with ease. Even control the DPI (Dots Per Inch) resolution
for true scale printing.

The catch? The basic programs are free for commercial or
non-commercial use, but there are upgrades which you can
purchase for a fee. You don't need to register these
programs, but if you do (for free) you get an unlock
code for several additional features, including a spell

      hogs, and old files and display
      useful statistics about your hard
      drive.

[2] THIS WEEK'S COMPUTING TIP: Manage Version Conflicts

When you install software on your computer you sometimes
inadvertently overwrite a newer version of an important
system file with an older version. This could lead to
problems with other programs that share the use of that
system file.

Windows98 contains a utility that can allow you to fix
this kind of conflict if it should occur. Click the "Start"
button, select "Run" and type "VCMUI" (without the quotes)
into the rectangular command line. The Version Conflict
Manager will open, displaying a list of files which may
be problematic. You can then fix any problems with a few
mouse clicks.

start ups and their jargon-riddled, look-alike, sound-
alike yuppie owners, stop here for some much needed
deflating of some stuffed shirts.

This is a hilarious parody of the typical internet IPO.
There's even an annoying, superfluous Flash presentation
on arrival.

Be sure to check out their privacy policy. (You may need
to increase your browser's text size to be able to read
it.)
