[2] THIS WEEK'S COMPUTING TIP: Back Up Your Data
------------------------------------------------------------
Those of you who have been following this ezine know that
I do my best to publish weekly.
About 10 days ago my aging PC finally bit the dust, and
I learned about the value of backing up one's essential
data.
Even though much of my digital information is still
available, a crash of my Windows system left most of it
inaccessible for several days. I'm now engaged in a
mind-numbing attempt to reconstruct my systems,
programs, and information.
Here's something I found out in the last few days: You
can now purchase a CD-RW drive with what's known as
"packet writing" capability. When you combine a packet
writing-enabled CD-RW drive with software (such as
Adaptec's Direct CD -- which you can download
for free
on the internet) you can use your CD-RW drive just like
any other drive on your computer.
You'll be able to copy and back up files on the fly
using drag-and-drop or any other method you currently
use. You don't need to spend a bundle for the hardware,
either. I used a search site called PriceWatch
and
found a fine CD-RW for $75 plus $10 shipping.
Here's the URL for PriceWatch:
http://www.pricewatch.com/
And here's where to get
the Adaptec software for free:
http://www.roxio.com
Be sure to use Roxio's
listing of compatible hardware
before you buy your CD-RW if you're going to use their
software. (And be sure to download any patches or
updates before you try to make any CDs.)

[3] THIS WEEK'S INTERNET TIP: A Generation Passing
------------------------------------------------------------
With the deaths in the past few days of actors Carroll
O'Connor and Jack Lemmon and blues legend John Lee
Hooker it's clear that a generation is passing away.
If you want to keep track of who's already left us and
who remains, Find
a Grave is just the web site for you.
Find a Grave
is a huge repository of the mortal status
of the famous, and of folks just like us.
You can search by name, location, birth date or death
date, or by your dearly departed's "claim to fame," or
any of several other categories. You can even see the
graves of thousands of famous people around the world.
Here's where you'll find Find
a Grave:

[4] THIS WEEK'S ONE-LINER
------------------------------------------------------------
"A man who correctly guesses a woman's age may be smart
but he's not very bright."

[5] Get Out of Debt, Retire Early
----------------------------------------------------------
"YOU can *Get Out of Debt* and *Retire* in Four Years
Or Less!"
The old approach of working and saving for 40 years
doesn't work. It is a myth. I will show you a
four-year
approach that DOES work.
No selling. No employees. No inventory. No meetings.
