Freedomlist.com has compiled a nearly comprehensive
list of free or low-cost internet service providers available
internationally.

At last count they showed 674 free or inexpensive ISPs
in 52 countries. Bear in mind that the low-end service
providers were decimated by the recent collapse of tech
stocks and the drying up of venture capital. What was
once a growth industry fed by advertising revenues has
become a virtual ghost town.

You may be familiar with the print term for image
definition: dots per inch or DPI. With your printer, for
example, you probably want as many dots per inch as
you can afford. The more DPI the crisper your text will
appear and the better your photographic reproduction.
All other things being equal, the higher a graphic image's
DPI, the better it will appear in print.

On the internet, however, it's a whole different ball
game. For example, the highest DPI your monitor can
deliver is 72. If you're creating images that are
strictly for the internet or your web site, there's no
need for you to scan them for resolution higher than
72 DPI. Added bonus: a lower DPI setting yields a
smaller size file for you to save. (Generally your
scanner's settings may not actually show an option for
72, so pick the closest available setting.)
