Here's a habit that's worth getting into: Before you buy
software for your computer, see if there's a free program
available that will accomplish what you need to do.

Quite often the free program is simpler to run and easier
to learn than some of the bloated programs that are
advertised so heavily. Benefit to you: You'll actually
be getting your jobs done faster.

Here's a great place to start if you're looking for free
software: The Pricelessware List was compiled by
readers of the Usenet group: alt.comp.freeware

(Usenet is where discussion groups are parked on the
internet.)

The list was originally intended to be a quick reference
for frequently requested freeware programs. The only
requirement was that the program be the best freeware
program in its category.

They've made it really easy to find what you're looking
for: If you know the program's name and do not require
any additional information, you can go directly to an
alphabetized index page for a download link; or you can
check for programs by category using a graphical menu.

resource.

There's a handy Troubleshooting Flowcharts section to
make problem resolution easier. Just select your version
of Windows and the general category of your problem.
Then follow the steps in the order listed. The site can
also direct you to additional resources if you don't solve
your problem immediately.

describes itself as a comprehensive online guide to digital
photography. And they may be just that.

This site is a great introduction to the entire field of
digital imaging. You'll find tips on buying digital
cameras or any of the hardware or software involved in
creating digital images.

Once you've completed your research and you've moved
from choosing to using, there's a complete guide to taking
better digital photos.
