Three Great Places for Medical Information

It isn't considered polite to ask for free medical advice
when schmoozing with a doctor. But with health care
costs as high as they are, it's hard to resist the urge. This
week I present three web sites where you can get all the
free medical information you'd like.

First, a comprehensive health care provider directory:

HealthStreet.com is both a source of accurate and easily
understood health care information for consumers, and home of the most comprehensive database of physicians
in the United States. You can search by specialty and subspecialty, location, hospital affiliation, languages
spoken and other criteria. You can also search for
dentists and health insurance providers. You'll find it

Next, a quick resource that replaces the need to scan
countless Internet health sites in search of a specific
topic of interest. PersonalMD.com provides a health
encyclopedia approved by The American Academy of Family
Physicians Foundation with 700 medical and surgical
topics in English and Spanish, and an on-line Merriam Webster Medical Dictionary. It is also "the ONLY health and medical web site that features medical record management and E-File which enables members to store and retrieve personal medical information including paper based records such as EKG's, lab results and X-ray reports in a safe and secure manner."

Lastly, the American Medical Association's Insight web
site contains a large collection of health information aimed
