Dial For Free With dialpad

dialpad.com is a free Java based phone service that
allows you to place web-to-phone calls anywhere in the
US.

When you use dialpad.com, your call is transmitted over
the Internet and automatically relayed to the telephone
number you're calling. The telephone of the person
you're calling will ring just as if they were receiving any
other incoming call. All you need to use it is an Internet
connection, a sound card, and a microphone.

Entering extension numbers can be a little off-putting
at first, as there's no tone to give feedback that the
number was entered. Also, the quality is equivalent to
a CB radio. But for the price, its free long distance.

For Faster Performance, Defragment Your Hard Drive

This week's tip is for both Mac and PC users.

Want to make sure that when you select a program, that
application starts as quickly as possible? Be sure to
defragment your hard drive on a regular basis. Once a
month makes sense. Use the disk defragmenter utility
that comes with your operating system. The version
of this utility that comes with Windows 98 will rearrange
your program files for optimum performance. Mac's
also have a defragmenter.

In Windows Select Start, Programs, Accessories,
System Tools, Disk Defragmenter, and select the drive
you want to defragment. Now click the Settings button
and select "Rearrange Program Files So My Programs
Start Faster," if it isn't already selected. Click OK
twice, and let the defragmenting begin!

VeloMail is a free e-mail service that lets you send and
receive e-mail in 40 languages. It manages this feat by
providing a virtual keyboard on your screen
demonstrating what each key will produce when used in
the language you're typing.

You can correspond in Arabic, Hebrew, or symbolic languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
